day 4

Yesterday in class we worked on a lot of worksheets. Today we did some more exciting things, we talked about what was going on with civil rights a bit. My favorite part of class was when e read two poems in class. One poem compared the south to a whore, basically stating that it would do anything to get money that's why they had slavery. The second poem talked about people who lived in the South didn't want to necessarily be there. At the end of class we listened to some old jazz music that was made when the African American's first started to express themselves through the arts. The music reminded me of old black and white silent movies and old swing music, I enjoyed being able to here the kind of music they were creating and listening to back at that time period.

Day 2 post

Today in school we had an assembly about drugs, or at least that's what it was supposed to be about. To me and many others it was an assembly on how to treat people as well. this man came and did a one man show which I found to be quite funny but in between laughs you were able to see some serious situations. Mr. Boyle had a talk with my class, about how we treat each other. I agreed with him that we do treat people awful, but we aren't bad people, we throw around words that we don't mean, we label others for what they look like and how they dress. Right here right now I personally am not going to tolerate it any more, im not going to sit around while others get bullied and trash talked, Mr. Boyle you were right today and even though I might not always participate in the conversation I am still not doing anything to stop it. its not an easy change and we all have to come together to make a change, kind of like the African American civil rights movement, everyone had to come together and be on the same terms in order to make integration successful.

day 2

Yesterday in class we talked about the Jim Crow laws and black code. I found that because there was a sudden force of people coming into communities after being slaves or being a different race made people resist the change and rebel. I think that maybe if they gradually pushed people into society that we may not have had such a huge outburst of hate crimes. In class we also talked about our animation project that i'm really excited about. I feel that Mr. Boyle is right in saying that this project will make things click in our minds more. I'm excited to try this new learning system and to see all of my class mates works.

day 6

Today we looked at Andrew Johnson's Obituary. We also talked a lot about the separation and the division that the new amendments and acts caused between white and black even more tension. Another thing we talked about was sharecropping which I found to be not fair at all. By the time you did all that was required before you were allowed to plant your crops it would either be too late or you would be behind on payment and be forced to work it off, which was almost like slavery all over again except now it was legal because they had too pay them back one way or another.
